in the shadows of butterflies

I am lingering
in the shadows
of butterflies
as the sun climbs over
cloud debris in the sky
walking along empty pathways
on the water's edge
finches and blackbirds call
from tall grasses and
wildflowers as I walk along
my heart follows the vines
where the blooms open
in the late summer afternoon
and rest in the cool, quiet
arms of the night
bullfrogs growl
and cicadas sing
in time with the echo
of each step of mine towards
the deep green woods ahead
sunshine sprawls across
the vibrant wing
shaping the shelter below
this is where I am
heart and songI am wandering home
